Homework Policy

Homework is an extension of the school day. We believe that homework assignments are important to a quality education which incorporates the development of independent work habits and study skills. All students are encouraged to read for 15-30 minutes daily depending on the age group. In addition to reading, students are expected to work on their homework assignments. The table below gives guidelines of the time an average student should spend on doing homework. This includes homework assignments and study time, but does not include free reading time. However, some students might need much more time, and others might need much less time than that stated in the table.

Students who are experiencing difficulty in the classroom are expected, with the guidance of their teachers, to spend more time working at home.

Homework provides parents with an opportunity to be engaged with their children’s learning, especially in lower levels. However, it is advised that parents supervise their children’s work and refrain from doing it for them. Doing the homework for them defeats the purpose of homework assignments.
